Suggested Self-Drive Itinerary
Day 1: Singapore → Sydney
Arrive at Sydney International Airport at 6:05am on flight SQ221. Your Sydney Super Shuttle transfer will be waiting outside the Arrivals terminal at Bay 12, opposite the Rydges Airport Hotel.
Transfer to Mercure Sydney on George Street. Hotel standard check-in is at 3:00pm, so leave your bags with the concierge and head out to explore. Start the morning at Hay St Roaster at Hay Street Market (open Wed–Sun 8:30am–4:30pm) for a leisurely breakfast, then wander through Paddy's Market (open Wed–Sun 10am–6pm) nearby. Take the Light Rail from Haymarket to Cockle Bay for a self-guided stroll around Darling Harbour and King Street Wharf, or head to the vibrant Barangaroo Avenue precinct for some of Sydney's best coffee and lunch spots.
In the afternoon, visit SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium with your included Merlin 2 Attraction Pass – download the New SEA Scan App for live feeding times and don't miss the Penguin Expedition Boat Ride, free with general admission. Wrap up your first evening with dinner at Spicey Alley, an Asian-themed hawker food alley just a 3-minute walk from the hotel.

Day 2: Vivid Sydney – Taronga Zoo & Dinner Cruise
After breakfast, take the Light Rail from Haymarket to Circular Quay for a morning among Sydney's most iconic sights. Stroll past the Sydney Opera House, then walk 2 minutes to The Rocks – Sydney's oldest neighbourhood. If visiting on a Friday, browse the Fridays at The Rocks Market (10am–3pm) for original art, local food and unique finds set against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour Bridge.
At around 11:20am, board the ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 4 to Taronga Zoo Wharf (12-minute journey) and enter through the Lower Zoo Entrance steps from the wharf. Spend the afternoon with over 4,000 animals. Recommended show times: Free Flight Birds at 12pm & 3pm, Gorilla Keeper Talk at 12:10pm, Seal for the Wild at 2pm, and Koala Keeper Talk at 2:30pm. Download the Taronga Zoo Sydney app to plan your day. Take the 3:42pm or 4:12pm ferry back to Circular Quay.
Make your way to King Street Wharf and arrive at least 20 minutes before the 5:00pm departure of your Vivid Special Dinner Cruise with Captain Cook Cruises. Board at 4:45pm for a magical 2-course set-menu dinner cruise around Sydney Harbour during the world-famous Vivid Sydney light festival. Disembark by approximately 7:00pm. Finish the evening with a sweet treat at KOI Dessert Bar on Central Park Avenue (open until 9pm, 6-minute walk from hotel).

Day 3: Collect Rental Car & Sydney Highlights
Make your own way to Sydney Airport by 8:00am to collect your East Coast Rental Car from Level 3, Park on King, 338 King Street, Mascot (opening hours: Sat 7am–5pm).
Start your self-drive adventure at Carriageworks Farmers Market in Eveleigh (open every Saturday 8am–1pm) for the freshest seasonal produce and artisan goods from local NSW growers. Continue to the new Sydney Fish Market at Blackwattle Bay for a world-class seafood lunch in a stunning waterfront setting. Drive east to Bondi Beach for an afternoon on the iconic sands, then walk the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Trail past the famous Icebergs Pool. Stop at the Diamond Bay Cliff Walk for panoramic ocean views along a 500-metre cliff-top path.
Head back into the city for your Sydney Tower Eye visit (Merlin 2 Attraction Pass) for sweeping 360-degree views across Sydney. Round off the evening at DigiPark at Westfield Sydney, open until 10pm on Vivid Sydney nights.

Day 4: Sydney → Nelson Bay via Country Drive
Check out of Mercure Sydney by 10:00am. Choose your scenic route north before heading to Nelson Bay:
Option 1: Drive to the Royal Botanic Garden (16 minutes) for the postcard shot of Sydney Harbour from Mrs Macquarie's Chair, then drive north to Iris Lodge Alpacas (~1hr 20min, 97km).
Option 2: Head to the Hawkesbury River Oyster Shed (52 minutes, 59km) – open Thu–Sun 10am–4pm, bookings recommended – for freshly shucked local oysters on the water, then continue to Iris Lodge Alpacas (~35min, 48.5km).
Option 3: Drive to historic Long Jetty Wharf (1hr 30min, 107km), a stunning 315-metre pier extending into Tuggerah Lake, for a quick photo stop, then drive to Iris Lodge Alpacas (~30min, 23km).
Arrive at Iris Lodge Alpacas in Jilliby at noon for a delightful 1-hour farm visit. Then drive 1 hour 20 minutes to Anna Bay for your 3:00pm Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters session. Bring your swimwear under a wetsuit for the Discovery Pass experience, plus a towel and spare change of clothes. GoPros and underwater cameras are very welcome. Check in to Mantra Nelson Bay (10-minute drive) and head out for dinner at nearby Sandpipers Restaurant & Bar or The Wharf Restaurant.

Day 5: Port Stephens Wildlife & Sand Dune Adventure
Drive 22 minutes to Oakvale Wildlife Park in Salt Ash (open daily 10am–5pm) for a morning packed with keeper talks, tractor-trailer rides and free-roaming animals – all included in your admission. Pick up an animal feed bag at the kiosk for a truly hands-on experience. Check the website before your visit for current show times.
If time allows, make the short detour to Oakfield Ranch at Birubi Point for an optional 20-minute camel ride (walk-in only, A$45/adult, A$40/child; first ride at 10am, last ride at 3:30pm; closed Wednesdays). At 3:00pm, meet the 4WD Tours R Us team at the lower car park on James Paterson Street, Anna Bay (look for the green flags) for a 1-hour sand board tour across the spectacular Stockton Sand Dunes. Wind down with a sunset stroll at Birubi Beach or make the climb up Tomaree Summit for panoramic views over Port Stephens (check current sunset times before you go).

Day 6: Blue Mountains – Three Sisters & Stargazing
Check out of Mantra Nelson Bay by 10:00am and make the scenic 2-hour 55-minute drive west into the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains. Begin at Elysian Rock Lookout for sweeping valley panoramas, then continue to Echo Point for the iconic Three Sisters rock formation. Stroll along the boardwalks at Katoomba Cascades Waterfalls through lush rainforest, and wander through the charming township of Leura with its tree-lined streets, boutique shops and cafés. Check in to Comfort Resort Leura Gardens (standard check-in from 2:00pm).
As dusk approaches, drive 7 minutes to Wentworth Falls for your 90-minute Blue Mountains Stargazing Tour starting at 5:45pm. Please arrive at the Wentworth Falls Lookout – 300 metres from the carpark, a 4-minute walk – at least 10 minutes before start time. When you reach the first lookout (Jamison Lookout), keep walking straight for 5 minutes to reach the Wentworth Falls Lookout meeting point. Telescopes, hot chocolate and blankets are provided; wear warm layers and bring a water bottle.

Day 7: Scenic World & Zig Zag Railway
Check out of Comfort Resort Leura Gardens by 10:00am. Drive 11 minutes to Scenic World in Katoomba and make the most of your Ultimate Discovery Pass with unlimited rides on the Scenic Railway (the world's steepest passenger railway), the Scenic Cableway and the glass-floored Scenic Skyway stretching across the Jamison Valley.
After lunch, drive 42 minutes to Clarence for the Zig Zag Railway. Check in at least 30 minutes before the 3:00pm departure – the train departs on time and cannot be held. Enjoy a 45-minute return journey on this historic heritage railway from Clarence up to Top Point through rugged mountain terrain. After your ride, make the approximately 2-hour drive back to Sydney CBD (134km) for your final night.

Day 8: Sydney → Singapore
Enjoy a final morning in Sydney before heading to the airport. Drop off your rental car at Sydney Airport as per your East Coast Car Rentals agreement and allow plenty of time for check-in and your departure flight back to Singapore.
